Jordona’s Picks · A Local’s Guide
The list we actually give people. Some of these you would drive straight past without a local telling you; some are names you already know and are simply the right call. Either way, this is where a family who has worked Murrieta for years eats.
Where Murrieta actually goes out: the sports bars with the game on, the patios that stay busy after dark, and the room with a band in it. Not a long list, because it is not a long list.
Not the attractions list, just the places people here actually go on a weekend. If you are working out what there is to do in Murrieta beyond the obvious, start with these.
Where to play in and around Murrieta, from a public course you can book this week to a club a whole community is built around.
What’s Coming Up
From the City of Murrieta’s own calendar, so it stays current without anyone here retyping it. These are Murrieta-wide, and most are a short drive from Bear Creek.
Check the Murrieta calendar ↗ before you set out.
Bear Creek is Murrieta's gated golf community, up in the hills off Clinton Keith Road on the west side of town. It's 621 homes wrapped around a Jack Nicklaus Signature course, with a pool, tennis and pickleball courts, bocce, a gym and a playground inside the gate, and the Santa Rosa Plateau a short drive farther up the road. The median sale was $1,450,000, and 21 of the last 31 sales closed above $1 million.
Quiet and spread out. You come in past the guardhouse, and from there the streets climb and curve around an eighteen-hole course, so a lot of Bear Creek homes look across a fairway, the water on the course or the valley below. Lots are big. The median lot on sales in the year to August 2026 was 0.42 of an acre.
The everyday stuff is inside the gate too. Bear Creek Master Association runs a lap pool, tennis and pickleball courts, a bocce court, a basketball court, a weight and cardio room, the community center and a playground, so a Saturday can be a swim and a game of pickleball without leaving the neighborhood.
The golf clubhouse sits above the course and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, but that's for club members. Owning a house here and belonging to the club are two different things, and I walk through what that means further down.
Bear Creek is in Murrieta Valley Unified. Cole Canyon Elementary is on Via Alisol, about a mile east, next to Copper Canyon Park. Thompson Middle on Hayes Avenue and Murrieta Valley High on Nighthawk Way are each a little over two miles away.
Wildomar starts just north of here, and a couple of Lake Elsinore Unified schools are actually closer on a map. That's why you shouldn't go by distance. The district assigns schools by address, so send me the house you're looking at and I'll confirm all three.
The 15 is about a mile and a half east of Bear Creek Drive North on Clinton Keith Road, which is what makes the drive to Temecula or up toward Corona easy from a hillside address.
Head the other way on Clinton Keith and you're on the Santa Rosa Plateau. The Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve visitor center, at 39400 Clinton Keith Road, is about two and a half miles past the Bear Creek turn, with trails through oak woodland, grassland and vernal pools. Visitors 16 and up need a CDFW Lands Pass.
If you want golf you can book without a membership, The Golf Club at Rancho California is a public Robert Trent Jones Sr. course. For a night out there's Old Town Murrieta, Nonno's Ristorante and Talia Kitchen, and Murrieta Hot Springs Resort has the mineral pools the town is named for. Tenaja Falls, five tiers in the Cleveland National Forest, is worth the trip after a good rain.
Bear Creek is in the hills of west Murrieta in ZIP 92562, and the whole community is built around a private golf course. The course came first. Bear Creek Golf Club opened in 1982 as an eighteen-hole Jack Nicklaus signature design, and the earliest homes date from 1984. Today the association counts 621 homes and home sites behind the gate.
You can tell what this place is about from the street signs. Glen Abbey, Shoal Creek, Muirfield, Turnberry, Royal Adelaide, Saint Annes and Carnoustie are all championship courses, and Bears Paw, Bear View and Bear Canyon belong to the Golden Bear himself. Bear Creek Master Association, run through Avalon Management, also looks after a pool, tennis, pickleball, bocce and basketball courts, a weight and cardio room, a community center and a playground.
Thirty-one homes sold in the twelve months to October 2026. In August 2026, eleven were listed and the median time on market was 33 days, for a community of 621 homes. That was slower than Copper Canyon down the road, where homes went in 17 days, so you can usually find something in Bear Creek, just not always the exact plan you want.
Start here: Bear Creek is two markets with one name. Twenty-nine of the recent Bear Creek records were single-family houses and fourteen were condos, which is how sales ran all the way from $519,000 to $2,750,000 in the year to August 2026. The median of $1,450,000 describes the houses. It doesn't describe the attached homes, and a search that lumps the two together won't tell you much.
The houses are large and low. The median sale was 3,212 square feet. In the year to August 2026 the median lot was 0.42 of an acre, plans ran from 1,614 to 6,028 square feet, and ten of the thirty-three sales sat on half an acre or more. Eighteen of last year's sales were single story. If you want everything on one level, that matters, because Spencer's Crossing and Copper Canyon are mostly two-story.
Almost every home has a view. Thirty-two of the thirty-three Bear Creek sales in the year to August 2026 had one, which is the hillside at work, and that was a higher share than Los Ranchitos, the only other community on our site where a view is close to standard. Fourteen of last year's sales had a private pool. Build years run 1984 to 2008 with a median of 1990. These are established homes with mature landscaping, so don't expect new construction.
Find out exactly which dues come with the house. Recent Bear Creek records run $295 to $745 a month, against roughly $89 at The Farm and nothing at all in Copper Canyon. That spread is usually a detached home paying the master assessment versus an attached one paying a sub-association on top. Get both figures in writing, and what each one pays for.
Don't assume the house comes with golf. Bear Creek Golf Club is a member-only private club that sells Full, Regional, National, Corporate and Social memberships, and those aren't limited to the 621 households inside the gate. Buying the house and joining the club are two separate purchases with two separate costs. The club only shares its fees in a membership packet you have to ask for, so get the packet before you set a budget.
These houses went up between 1984 and 2008, with a median of 1990, so the roof, the HVAC and the water heater are due for their first replacement if nobody has done it yet. On 3,200 square feet with a view lot and maybe a pool, that's real money. Old equipment is something you can negotiate on.
Ask about the slope. On hillside lots, grading, drainage and retaining walls come up again and again, and the wall holding up a view is usually somebody's responsibility in writing. Find out whose before your inspection contingency closes.

Before you work out a payment
Bear Creek was built from 1984 to 2008, right across the start of the Mello-Roos era in Riverside County. Most of the earlier homes came before it, and the later ones may not have. It's set by parcel and it's disclosed, so I confirm it on the exact address instead of guessing from the community.
The Detail

The Market
Bear Creek has 15 homes on the market today, asking a median of $1,249,800. Over the last 90 days 7 sold, at a median of $1,175,000, typically 30 days after listing. Homes are closing at 97.8% of asking price, so there is usually room to negotiate.

Your payment
An estimate for planning only, not a loan offer, quote or financial advice. Your actual payment depends on your lender, credit and final terms.
An estimate, not a quote. The rate and tax rate are defaults you can change, and homes in newer parts of the valley often carry a Mello-Roos special tax on top. Put it in the HOA field if you know it, and ask us if you do not.
Homeowners Association
Too few homes are currently on the market in Bear Creek reporting association dues to publish a reliable range. Ask us and we will pull the current figure for a specific address.
Bear Creek Master Association, managed by Avalon Management, looks after the gate, a pool, tennis, pickleball, bocce and basketball courts, a weight and cardio room, a community center and a playground for 621 homes. Recent records show dues from $295 to $745 a month, and the spread means something: the upper end is usually an attached home paying a sub-association on top of the master assessment. Find out which applies to the exact address, get both figures, and ask for the reserve study, because a gate, a clubhouse and a full set of courts take a lot of funding. Golf isn't included. Bear Creek Golf Club is a member-only private club with its own categories and fees, so if you want to play, budget it as a second monthly number. Ask for the association's governing documents, the current dues, any pending special assessment, and the reserve study. In California the seller is required to provide these under Civil Code §4525, and the time to read them is your investigation period rather than after it.

Confirm the boundary. Attendance areas are set by the district, do not follow community lines, and are redrawn as schools open, so check the assigned schools for the specific address rather than the neighborhood. Ask Murrieta Valley Unified or Temecula Valley Unified.

Top Realtor in Murrieta: the record and homes we soldBear Creek is in Murrieta Valley Unified. Cole Canyon Elementary on Via Alisol is about a mile away, and Thompson Middle and Murrieta Valley High are each a little over two miles. Wildomar's Lake Elsinore Unified schools are close on a map too, so confirm the assigned schools for the exact address.
Bear Creek Drive North is about a mile and a half west of the 15 on Clinton Keith Road, so the freeway is a short drive from the gate.
The Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve is up Clinton Keith Road, about two and a half miles past the Bear Creek turn, with trails through oak woodland and grassland. In town there's Old Town Murrieta, Murrieta Hot Springs Resort, and a public golf course at The Golf Club at Rancho California.
Yes. Bear Creek Master Association describes it as a gated enclave of 621 homes and home sites, with a guardhouse at the entrance. The golf course inside is a private member club, so living here doesn't come with play. Of the Murrieta communities we cover, Greer Ranch and The Colony are gated too, and Greer Ranch happens to be run by the same management company.
Yes. It's an eighteen-hole Jack Nicklaus signature course that opened in 1982, two years before the earliest homes. It's a member-only private club, though, and the house doesn't include play. The club sells Full, Regional, National, Corporate and Social memberships. Ask for its membership packet to see the fees, because they aren't published online and they're a separate cost from your association dues.
The thirty-three sales in the year to August 2026 ran from $519,000 to $2,750,000, and that range isn't a couple of odd sales. Bear Creek has both detached houses and condos, and they're priced as different markets. Over the last twelve months the median was $1,450,000, and twenty-one sold above $1 million.
Yes. Of the forty-four sold and listed records in August 2026, twenty-nine were single-family houses and fourteen were condos. The attached homes make up the lower end of that price range and usually carry a sub-association fee on top of the master dues, so check which one you're looking at before you compare prices.
Often. Eighteen of the last thirty-one sales were single level, and Murrieta's newer communities are mostly two-story. If you need a single-story plan, Bear Creek is one of the better places in the city to look.
Almost all of them. Thirty-two of the thirty-three sales in the year to August 2026 had a view, and that's what the hillside setting buys you. It also means you should ask about the retaining walls and slopes, because on a view lot somebody is responsible for the ground holding it up.
